2010 IFL Season in Review: 2001 Redskins

December 15, 2010 Leave a comment

Here is installment #3

2001 Redskins

  • Record – 5-9 (1-5 Lincoln)
  • Points scored – 1154.50 (11th)
  • Points against – 1350.30 (13th)
  • Team MVP – QB Kyle Orton
  • Best win – Week 10 vs. DaBearColts (115.74 – 64.78)
  • Worst loss – Week 8 vs. The Other Side (140.58 – 73.76)
  • Longest win streak – 2 (Weeks 6-7, 9-10)
  • Longest losing streak – 5 (Weeks 1-5)

The team formerly known as Romosexual Xperience changed names in the midst of a 5-game losing streak to begin the season, as part of a motivational tactic that was inspired by the team with a similar name.  Making a high number of moves this season too, 20, did not seem to help 2001 Redskins.

2001 Redskins did recover nicely after the 0-5 start, going 4-1 from Weeks 6-10.  But ultimately, the bad start was too much to overcome, as they fell a couple games short of the playoffs.

Point totals was also a major factor this year for 2001 Redskins, having the second most points against in the league, while scoring the 4th least amount for themselves.  With a little more luck and consistency next year, 2001 Redskins could be in the playoff mix.

2010 IFL Season in Review: DaBearColts

Here is the second installment in our Season in Review series.

DaBearColts

  • Record – 5-9 (3-3 Reagan)
  • Points scored – 1089.18 (14th)
  • Points against – 1148.32 (2nd)
  • MVP – QB Drew Brees, 284.80 points
  • Best win – Week 3 vs. The Grove Johnsons (128.80-77.10)
  • Worst loss – Week 10 vs. 2001 Redskins (115.74 – 64.78)
  • Longest win streak – 3 (Weeks 6-8)
  • Longest losing streak – 5 (Weeks 9-13)

DaBearColts had potential this year to be a contender.  The team had favorable match-ups each week, with a 2nd best points against in the league.  But scoring points was another story, as they could only muster 1089.18 over the course of the season, worse in the league.

DaBearColts were also in the fight late in the season, having a 4-4 start to the season.  But they were taken out of contention after suffering a 5-game losing streak to close out the season, before a win over 2001 Redskins in the final week.  With a high pick for next season, DaBearColts could see improvement, and a fight for a playoff berth.

2010 IFL Season in Review: The Grove Johnsons

December 15, 2010 Leave a comment

Here we will begin a series of Season in Reviews for each team in the Illinois Football League.  Each summary will include team records, points scored and given up, the team’s MVP (which will basically be who has the most points scored on that team), best win and worst loss, and longest winning and losing streaks.  Each team will receive a summary after their season is complete.

This is the first in the series of 14, and we begin with the team that finished dead last this year.  The series order will be the final ranking position of each team.  Thus, #1 in the series will be The Grove Johnsons.

The Grove Johnsons

  • Record – 3-11 (0-7 Reagan)
  • Points scored: 1107.28 (13th)
  • Points against: 1401.28 (14th)
  • Team MVP – QB Peyton Manning, 284.42 points
  • Best win – Week 4 vs. B1R (75.28 – 42.90)
  • Worst loss – Week 8 vs. Most Daring (126.78 – 53.12)
  • Longest win streak – 1 (Week 1, 4, 11)
  • Longest losing streak – 6 (Weeks 5-10)

2010 was a rough season for The Grove Johnsons.  The calling card for the 3-11 record this season was points, scoring the second least amount in the league, and giving up the most.  The average score each week for this team is 79.09 for and 100.09 against.

The Grove Johnsons were still in contention through 4 weeks of the year with a 2-2 record.  But a 6-game losing streak, and going 1-9 to close out the season put a certain doom on this team.

The Grove Johnsons had a decent draft position to begin the season at 6th, but only made 7 roster moves all year long, 4th worst in the league, with the last move made in October.  As seen in the IFB, a lack of roster moves can hurt.

There will be hope for the team next year, when they receive the top pick.  But a 3-11 record in 2010 can not sit too well.
