Week 1 Review and Week 2 Preview

After months of waiting, and a week-and-a-half of games, the first official week-in-review for the 2011 season of the Illinois Fantasy Baseball League can be produced.  Here’s a look at what happened in Week 1….

  • All Balls No Strikes over Quincy Dirtbags, 10-2
  • Muse Academy Muses over NIU Huskies, 7-5
  • Quiet TheRiot over Bad News Bears, 7-5
  • South Side Cubs Fan over Triple Crown, 8-4
  • BooBooCubs over Fernando Vina’s Goatee, 8-3
  • SouthsideSluggers over PujolsalwaysCardinal, 8-4
  • Good Wood Gang over Most Daring, 7-5
  • Funky Cold Molina tied The Chosen People, 6-6

Now here’s a look at the standings after Week 1.  I’m implementing a new method here to try and make life easier for posting the standings, plus I’m lazy.  From now, I’ll take a screencap of the standings on Monday morning, and we’ll analyze the numbers from there.  So here’s the standings after Week 1…

Looking at the standings, a big win has propelled All Balls No Strikes into first place overall, but losses by everyone else in the division has given them a dominating 5 game lead in the Obama standings.  It is still just the first week, and anything can happen.  In the other divisions, South Side Cubs Fan has a one-game lead over the Muse Academy Muses and Good Wood Gang in the Reagan; BooBooCubs is off to a good start to defend the Lincoln title, with a 1.5 game lead over Quiet TheRiot; and SouthSideSluggers has a 2 game lead over Funky Cold Molina and The Chosen People in the Grant Division.

And now it’s time for the weekly awards:

  • Bugs Bunny Best Record – All Balls No Strikes (10-2)
  • The Simpsons Runs Leader – Muse Academy Muses (59)
  • Josie and the Pussycats Hits Leader – South Side Cubs Fan (104)
  • Homer Simpson Home Runs Leader – All Balls No Strikes (17)
  • Fat Albert RBI Leader – SouthSideSluggers (62)
  • Speedy Gonzalez Stolen Base Leader – PujolsalwaysCardinal (11)
  • Heather Average Leader – South Side Cubs Fan (.315)
  • Rainbow Dash Wins Leader – Good Wood Gang (7)
  • Timmy Turner Losses Leader – SouthSideSluggers (1)
  • Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers – PujolsalwaysCardinal (10)
  • Herbert Walks Leader – SouthSideSluggers/Good Wood Gang/NIU Huskies (16)
  • Wile E. Coyote Strikeout Leader – Bad News Bears (89)
  • Peppermint Patty ERA Leader – Good Wood Gang (2.40)

I’ll keep an eye on the overall leaders through the season, and possibly hand out some physical awards for that.

And now a look at the match-ups for Week 2:

  • FernandoVinasGoatee (3-8-1) vs. Funky Cold Molina (6-6-0)
  • South Side Cubs Fan (8-4-0) vs. Bad News Bears (5-7-0)
  • Good Wood Gang (7-5-0) vs. PujolsalwaysCardinal (4-8-0)
  • Muse Academy Muses (7-5-0) vs. All Balls No Strikes (10-2-0)
  • Boo Boo Cubs (8-3-1) vs. Triple Crown (4-8-0)
  • Quiet TheRiot (7-5-0) vs. The Chosen People (6-6-0)
  • Most Daring (5-7-0) vs. NIU Huskies (5-7-0)
  • Quincy Dirtbags (2-10-0) vs. SouthSideSluggers (8-4-0)

No division match-ups are scheduled for Week 2.  Matchup of the Week honor goes to the battle between league-leader All Balls No Strikes and the Muse Academy Muses.  It’s a different story for ABNS to start 2011, as they got off to a poor and slow start in 2010.  This year is different, as shown by a 10-2 Week 1 victory over Quincy Dirtbags.  A fast start may be the difference this year between a playoff berth and sitting home for the playoffs, as ABNS lost out on a tiebreaker last year.  The Muse Academy Muses are tied for 2nd in the Reagan Division, a game back from South Side Cubs Fan.  This match-up has the best combined record of any other in the league this week, at 17-7-0.

Other notable match-ups this week include Quiet TheRiot and The Chosen People in a battle of teams in 2nd place in their divisions, and the only other match-up in Week 2 where both teams are at or above .500.  Reagan-leader South Side Cubs Fan takes on Bad News Bears, where SSCF looks to stay in 1st, and BNB tries to close the 5-game gap in the Obama Division.

Later this week in the blog, a season summary will take place for a league that was put in the back burners and forgotten about (by me at least), but completed yesterday.  An attempt at humor in script form will come later this week (tomorrow or Thursday) in relation to a recent retirement.  And ‘Meet A Manager’ returns Wednesday (hopefully too), with a new profile.  I just need someone willing to be questioned.

And finally, the leagues now has a page on Facebook.  But since that (running a page) is new to me, it might take a while to figure it out.  Nevertheless, search ‘Illinois Fantasy Leagues’ on Facebook, and like us.
