IFB Week 2 Recap and Week 3 Preview

Week 2 was a week of parody in the Illinois Fantasy Baseball League.  No one team dominated, as no one gathered more than 8 wins in a match-up this week.  Some teams were able to improve their standings, others were able to stay the course, and the rest fell further back.  Without further ado, here’s the Week 2 results…

  • FernandoVinas Goatee tied Funky Cold Molina, 6-6
  • South Side Cubs Fan defeats Bad News Bears, 8-4
  • PujolsalwaysCardinal defeats Good Wood Gang, 8-4
  • All Balls No Strikes defeats Muse Academy Muses, 7-5
  • Boo Boo Cubs defeats Triple Crown, 8-3
  • Quiet TheRiot defeats The Chosen People, 7-3
  • Most Daring tied NIU Huskies, 6-6
  • Quincy Dirtbags defeats SouthSideSluggers, 7-5

Here’s a look at the updated standings after Week 2:

There’s now a tie at the top for the best record in the league, between Boo Boo Cubs and All Balls No Strikes.  Even though ABNS has one more win, BBC’s two ties equal one win (ties count for a half-win in the league), thus giving them equal winning percentages.  ABNS also increased their Obama Division lead by a game, while South Side Cubs Fan was able to grow their lead in the Reagan.  SouthSideSluggers held on to the Grant Division lead, but the lead was cut from 2 games to 1.

And now a look at the Week 2 awards:

  • Bugs Bunny Best Record – Boo Boo Cubs (8-3-1)
  • The Simpsons Runs Leader – Quincy Dirtbags (42)
  • Josie and the Pussycats Hits Leader – PujolsalwaysCardinal (70)
  • Homer Simpson Home Runs Leader – FernandoVinas Goatee/South Side Cubs Fan (10)
  • Fat Albert RBIs Leader – FernandoVinas Goatee (37)
  • Speedy Gonzalez Stolen Bases Leader – PujolsalwaysCardinal (10)
  • Heather Average Leader – PujolsalwaysCardinal (.321)
  • Rainbow Dash Wins Leader – Quincy Dirtbags/Good Wood Gang/FernandoVinas Goatee (6)
  • Timmy Turner Losses Leader – SouthSideSluggers/Most Daring/South Side Cubs Fan/All Balls No Strikes (1)
  • Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers Saves Leader – Boo Boo Cubs (8)
  • Herbert Walks Leader – Boo Boo Cubs/NIU Huskies (8)
  • Wile E. Coyote Strikeouts Leader – Quincy Dirtbags (65)
  • Peppermint Patty ERA Leader – NIU Huskies (1.71)

And now a look at the Week 3 match-ups.  This week, divisional play includes the Lincoln and Obama Divisions:

  • FernandoVinas Goatee (9-14-1) vs. The Chosen People (9-13-2)
  • South Side Cubs Fan (16-8-0) vs. Funky Cold Molina (12-12-0)
  • SouthSideSluggers (13-11-0) vs. Good Wood Gang (11-13-0)
  • Muse Academy Muses (12-12-0) vs. PujolsalwaysCardinal (12-12-0)
  • Boo Boo Cubs (16-6-2) vs. Quiet TheRiot (14-8-2)
  • Most Daring (11-13-0) vs. Quincy Dirtbags (9-15-0)
  • Bad News Bears (9-15-0) vs. Triple Crown (7-16-1)
  • All Balls No Strikes (17-7-0) vs. NIU Huskies (11-13-0)

The Match-up of the Week is a Lincoln Division tilt between leader Boo Boo Cubs and Quiet TheRiot, who is 2 games back.  Both teams picked up big wins last week.  Both teams are maintained good momentum from last season as well.  Boo Boo Cubs will look to extend their division lead, and quite possibly take sole possession of the league’s best record.  Quiet TheRiot is looking to overcome the division leader.  A big win by either team this week could set the course on who the Lincoln Division will be chasing in 2011.

Other notable match-ups this week include All Balls No Strikes vs. NIU Huskies in an Obama Division match-up.  NIU is looking to cut into the division lead by ABNS, and bring everyone else back into the race, while ABNS could put the entire division into a big early season hole.  South Side Cubs Fan will look to keep their Reagan Division lead against a Funky Cold Molina team trying to capture first place in the Grant Division.  Two 2nd place teams, Reagan’s Muse Academy Muses and Grant’s PujolsalwaysCardinal will look to stay in their division races.

That’s a look back and ahead in the IFB.  Good luck in Week 3!
