IFB Week 5 Review and Week 6 Preview

Another week of action in the Illinois Fantasy Baseball League has been completed, and the season is in full swing now.  Before we get to the recap, I would like to apologize for a lack of IFB Theater this past weekend.  This past week and weekend was hectic, and I didn’t even have a chance to write one up.  The idea is still in mind, and I plan on doing it (hopefully) soon.

Now then, on to the recap of Week 5 in the Illinois Fantasy Baseball League…

First up, a look at how the match-ups panned out:

  • Muse Academy Muses defeated Most Daring, 7-3
  • Funky Cold Molina defeated Bad News Bears, 8-2
  • Triple Crown defeated The Chosen People, 8-4
  • Quiet TheRiot defeated FernandoVinas Goatee, 8-4
  • PujolsalwaysCardinal defeated All Balls No Strikes, 5-3
  • Good Wood Gang defeated Quincy Dirtbags, 8-4
  • South Side Cubs Fan defeated BooBooCubs, 7-4
  • NIU Huskies defeated SouthSideSluggers, 6-4

Here’s a look at the standings after Week 5…

Division leaders held on to their spots for another week.  The top overall seed right now goes to Reagan Division-leader South Side Cubs Fans, who holds a 4 game lead over wild card leader Muse Academy Muses, which is a half-game decrease from Week 4.  The only team to see their division lead increase was Obama Division-leader All Balls No Strikes, who added 2 games to their lead, despite losing 3-5-4 in Week 4.  PujolsalwaysCardinal saw a 2 game decrease in their division lead, while BooBooCubs’ Lincoln Division lead went down a half-game.

And now for the first time this season (now that there’s enough games to quantify it), the wild card standings.  This will be listed by team name, record, their playoff points (wins + 1/2 ties), and how many games back a team is…

And now the final component in the standings check, a look at how each division stacks up against each other:

  1. Grant – 119-107-14 (.525)
  2. Reagan – 116-115-9 (.502)
  3. Obama – 110-116-14 (.488)
  4. Lincoln – 109-116-15 (.485)

The Grant Division maintains the top spot, but a week that saw Reagan Division teams go 26-19-3 boosted them to 2nd overall.  The Obama Division remains 3rd, while the Lincoln Division now maintains the bottom spot.

It’s now time for the weekly awards:

  • Bugs Bunny Best Record – Funky Cold Molina (8-2-2)
  • The Simpsons Runs Leader – Quiet TheRiot/NIU Huskies (32)
  • Josie and the Pussycats Hits Leader – Quiet TheRiot (69)
  • Homer Simpson Home Runs Leader – Funky Cold Molina (8)
  • Fat Albert RBI Leader – Funky Cold Molina (34)
  • Speedy Gonzalez Stolen Bases Leader – PujolsalwaysCardinal (11)
  • Heather Average Leader – PujolsalwaysCardinal (.299)
  • Rainbow Dash Wins Leader – Quincy Dirtbags (7)
  • Timmy Turner Loss Leader – All Balls No Strikes (0)
  • Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers Saves Leader – Muse Academy Muses/Most Daring/BooBooCubs/Funky Cold Molina/Triple Crown (5)
  • Herbert Walks Leader – Triple Crown/NIU Huskies (7)
  • Wile E. Coyote K’s Leader – The Chosen People (75)
  • Peppermint Patty ERA Leader – Funky Cold Molina (1.54)

And to wrap up, here’s a preview of Week 6…

  • FernandoVinas Goatee (19-38-3) vs. Triple Crown (23-34-3)
  • South Side Cubs Fan (37-21-2) vs. The Chosen People (25-31-4)
  • Good Wood Gang (27-31-2) vs. NIU Huskies (27-31-4)
  • Muse Academy Muses (33-25-2) vs. SouthSideSluggers (27-30-3)
  • BooBooCubs (32-25-2) vs. Bad News Bears (27-29-4)
  • Quiet TheRiot (31-25-4) vs. Funky Cold Molina (32-25-3)
  • Most Daring (30-26-4) vs. All Balls No Strikes (33-22-5)
  • Quincy Dirtbags (16-42-2) vs. PujolsalwaysCardinal (35-21-4)

The Match-up of the Week for Week 6 is the battle between Obama Division-leader All Balls No Strikes and Most Daring.  ABNS is looking to bounce back after suffering its first match-up loss of 2011, and finds itself out of first-place (either outright or tied) overall for the first time this year.  ABNS finds itself only 2.5 games out of first place overall after Week 5, but still has a comfortable lead in the Obama Division.

Most Daring took a tough loss to the Muse Academy Muses this week, but is still hanging on to a wild card spot, with a decent 3 game gap between them and Bad News Bears for the final playoff spot.  Most Daring is playing to get back in the Lincoln Division, and climb the wild card standings, while ABNS is looking to hop back to the top of the mountain.  And with the best combined record of any match-up this week, Most Daring and All Balls No Strikes is the Week 6 Match-up of the Week.

Other notable match-ups this week include a battle between two wild card teams in Quiet TheRiot and Funky Cold Molina; Bad News Bears will look to hop into a wild card spot against Lincoln Division-leading BooBooCubs; and wild card-leading Muse Academy Muses looks to stay in that position, or top the Reagan Division against SouthSideSluggers.

Good luck to everyone in Week 6!
