IFB Week 6 Review and Week 7 Preview

Over a quarter of the season has been complete so far in the Illinois Fantasy Baseball League, and the action is heating up.  Separation is starting to occur in the divisions, but the wild card race is exciting and tight.  Here’s a look back at the week at hand.

First, the results from Week 6:

  • The Chosen People defeats South Side Cubs Fan, 8-4
  • FernandoVinas Goatee defeats Triple Crown, 9-3
  • Good Wood Gang defeats NIU Huskies, 7-4
  • SouthSideSluggers defeats Muse Academy Muses, 8-3
  • BooBooCubs defeats Bad News Bears, 9-3
  • Quincy Dirtbags defeats PujolsalwaysCardinal, 6-4
  • Funky Cold Molina defeats Quiet TheRiot, 6-5
  • All Balls No Strikes defeats Most Daring, 10-2

It was a crazy week for results.  The worst team in the league, Quincy Dirtbags, pulled off an upset victory over Grant Division leader, PujolsalwysCardinal.  Also, All Balls No Strikes was just a home run and a couple RBIs away from shutting out Most Daring, and that close to becoming the second member of the ‘Diamond Dozen’ club.

Here’s a look at the standings after Week 6…

All the division leaders stayed the same, but with some shuffling as who the top team in the league is.  All Balls No Strikes is at the top, after their dominating week, while BooBooCubs is 2nd overall after a 9-3-0 week.  All Balls No Strikes now holds a two-game lead for the best record in the league.

Every division leader also increased their leads this week, apart from PujolsalwaysCardinal.  South Side Cubs Fan increased their Reagan lead by a half-game over the Muse Academy Muses, going to 4.5 games.  BooBooCubs held a 1.5 game lead last week over Quiet TheRiot, and increased that to 5 games.  All Balls No Strikes doubled their lead in the Obama, going from 6.5 games to 13 games over now-2nd place NIU Huskies.  PujolsalwaysCardinal lost 1.5 games in their lead over Funky Cold Molina, decreasing to 2 games.

And now a look at the wild card standings…

Funky Cold Molina takes the top spot away from the Muse Academy Muses, who dropped to the 7th seed.  Quiet TheRiot also moved up a spot to the 6th seed, and SouthSideSluggers jumped two spots to take the last wild card slot.  Most Daring dropped 3 spots, and is now 3 games back, after a bad week for the team.  Last week the gap between the last wild card slot and the first team out was 3 games, but that has now been cut in half, to 1.5 games.

And now the last component in the record breakdown, a look at how the divisions are doing, combined:

  1. Grant – 145-125-18 (.535)
  2. Reagan – 139-138-11 (.502)
  3. Lincoln – 131-139-18 (.486)
  4. Obama – 130-143-15 (.477)

The only change this week is Lincoln and Obama switching spots.  It’s no surprise that the Grant Division is leading the pack, as three out of the four teams are projected into playoff spots right now, with the 4th just 2 games back of a playoff spot.

It’s now time for the weekly awards:

  • Bugs Bunny Best Record – All Balls No Strikes (10-2-0)
  • The Simpsons Runs Leader – All Balls No Strikes (40)
  • Josie and the Pussycats Hits Leader – SouthSideSluggers (72)
  • Homer Simpson Home Runs Leader – The Chosen People (17*)
  • Fat Albert RBI Leader – The Chosen People (35)
  • Speedy Gonzalez Stolen Bases Leader – Quincy Dirtbags/Quiet TheRiot (8)
  • Heather Average Leader – NIU Huskies (.342*)
  • Rainbow Dash Wins Leader – Quiet TheRiot (6)
  • Timmy Turner Losses Leader – Quincy Dirtbags (0*)
  • Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers Saves Leader – NIU Huskies (6)
  • Herbert Walks Leader – Funky Cold Molina (7*)
  • Wile E. Coyote K’s Leader – South Side Cubs Fan (52)
  • Peppermint Patty ERA Leader – Quincy Dirtbags (0.96*)

* = Record set or tied

And to wrap up, a look at the match-ups in Week 7.  Divisional play will occur this week, as the last of the four divisions to see it happen, the Reagan Division, squares off against each other:

  • FernandoVinas Goatee (28-41-3) vs. South Side Cubs Fan (41-29-2)
  • Muse Academy Muses (36-33-3) vs. Good Wood Gang (34-35-3)
  • BooBooCubs (41-26-5) vs. Funky Cold Molina (38-30-4)
  • Quiet TheRiot (36-31-3) vs. Triple Crown (26-43-3)
  • Most Daring (32-36-4) vs. PujolsalwaysCardinal (39-27-6)
  • Quincy Dirtbags (22-46-4) vs. NIU Huskies (31-38-3)
  • Bad News Bears (30-38-4) vs. The Chosen People (33-35-4)
  • All Balls No Strikes (43-24-5) vs. SouthSideSluggers (35-33-4)

Week 7’s Match-up of the Week is a battle between two different leaders.  Lincoln Division leader BooBooCubs squares off against wild card leader Funky Cold Molina.  Both teams are coming off victories this week, and are looking to hold their leads.  BooBooCubs is playing to close the gap between them and All Balls No Strikes, keep the pace with them, or overtake them for the best record in the league.  Funky Cold Molina is looking to stay strong in the wild card race, and maintain or grow the deficit between them at the cut line.

Other notables this week include a Reagan Division battle between Good Wood Gang and the Muse Academy Muses.  GWG is on the outside looking in for the wild card race, and 6.5 games back in the division, while the Muses look to bounce back from a bad week and stay in the wild card race and the Reagan race.  All Balls No Strikes takes on the SouthSideSluggers in a match-up that is the currently projected 1-vs.-8 playoff match-up.

Good luck to everyone in Week 7!
