IFB Week 7 Review and Week 8 Preview

A third of the season is now complete in the Illinois Fantasy Baseball League, and the review is better late than never (unlike IFL Theaters).  Without further delay, here’s a breakdown of the past week.

First, a look at the results in Week 7:

  • Muse Academy Muses defeats Good Wood Gang, 7-4
  • The Chosen People defeats Bad News Bears, 8-3
  • Quiet TheRiot defeats Triple Crown, 7-4
  • South Side Cubs Fan defeats FernandoVinas Goatee, 9-2
  • Most Daring defeats PujolsalwaysCardinal, 5-4
  • Quincy Dirtbags tied NIU Huskies, 6-6
  • BooBooCubs defeats Funky Cold Molina, 6-5
  • SouthSideSluggers defeats All Balls No Strikes, 6-4

And now a look at the standings after Week 7:

There’s a new overall leader.  All Balls No Strikes slipped down to 2nd place after a defeat to SouthSideSluggers, while a dominating performance by South Side Cubs Fan vaulted them from 4th, all the way to the top spot.  Division leaders basically stayed the same after Week 7.  SSCF increased their division lead over the Muse Academy Muses in the Reagan Division by two games.  BooBooCubs lost a game to Quiet TheRiot in the Lincoln Division.  All Balls No Strikes lost a game on their lead over NIU Huskies as well, but still has the biggest division lead of the four at 12 games.  PujolsalwaysCardinal kept their two game lead over Funky Cold Molina in a competitive Grant Division.

Here’s a look at the wild card standings after Week 7:

The four wild card teams remain the same, but the gap is now even closer.  Quiet TheRiot is the new wild card leader, but is only 2.5 games above the 5th best team, which is the first team out of the playoffs.  Last week, that gap was nearly double at 4.5 games.  The gulf is now between 5th and 6th place, where it is a 3 game difference.

And now a look at the weekly awards:

  • Bugs Bunny Best Record – South Side Cubs Fan (9-2-1)
  • The Simpsons Runs Leader – South Side Cubs Fan (39)
  • Josie and the Pussycats Hits Leader – South Side Cubs Fan (75)
  • Homer Simpsons Home Runs Leader – SouthSideSluggers/Quincy Dirtbags (8)
  • Fat Albert RBI Leader – The Chosen People (40)
  • Speedy Gonzalez Stolen Bases Leader – All Balls No Strikes (9)
  • Heather Average Leader – South Side Cubs Fan (.299)
  • Rainbow Dash Wins Leader – Funky Cold Molina (5)
  • Timmy Turner Losses Leader – The Chosen People (0*)
  • Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers Saves Leader – Funky Cold Molina/Most Daring (6)
  • Herbert Walks Leader – South Side Cubs Fan (5*)
  • Wile E. Coyote Ks Leader – PujolsalwaysCardinal (63)
  • Peppermint Patty ERA Leader – NIU Huskies (1.16)

* = Broke or tied season high

And now a look at the match-ups in Week 8:

  • Muse Academy Muses (43-37-4) vs. Triple Crown (30-50-4)
  • Bad News Bears (33-46-5) vs. NIU Huskies (37-44-3)
  • FernandosVinas Goatee (30-50-4) vs. SouthSideSluggers (41-37-6)
  • PujolsalwaysCardinal (43-32-9) vs. Quiet TheRiot (43-35-6)
  • Quincy Dirtbags (28-52-4) vs. The Chosen People (41-38-5)
  • BooBooCubs (47-31-6) vs. Good Wood Gang (38-42-4)
  • Most Daring (37-40-7) vs. Funky Cold Molina (43-36-5)
  • All Balls No Strikes (47-30-7) vs. South Side Cubs Fan (50-31-3)

It’s pretty obvious what the Match-up of the Week for Week 8 will be.  The top two teams in the league square off when All Balls No Strikes takes on South Side Cubs Fan.  With a sizable lead in the Obama Division, ABNS is looking to claim the league’s top spot back, after a tough loss last week to SouthSideSluggers.  SSCF will be looking to maintain two leads, the Reagan Division and the overall lead.

It’s better late than never, but the weekly summary is complete.  Good luck in Week 8!
