IFB Week 8 Review and Week 9 Preview

Once again, better late than never.  This time though, the blog took a day off as Memorial Day was celebrate.  God Bless our troops, those who are serving and those who have fallen.

Without further adu, here’s the recap of a week that saw one team distance themself in the wild card, and a complete leapfrog in one division.

First, here’s a look at the results from Week 8:

  • Bad News Bears defeated NIU Huskies, 8-4
  • SouthSideSluggers defeats FernandoVinasGoatee, 6-4
  • Quiet TheRiot defeats PujolsalwaysCardinal, 10-2
  • Triple Crown defeats Muse Academy Muses, 8-4
  • The Chosen People defeats Quincy Dirtbags, 7-3
  • BooBooCubs defeats Good Wood Gang, 6-5
  • Most Daring defeats Funky Cold Molina, 8-4
  • All Balls No Strikes defeats South Side Cubs Fan, 8-4

And now a look at the standings after Week 8:

The biggest move was seen in the Grant Division.  Last week, The Chosen People was last in the division, but 9th overall and on the outside looking in for the wild card.  This week, they jump all the way into the top spot in a very tight Grant Division, where 2 games separates everyone.  A strong week by Quiet TheRiot help cut a four-game lead for BooBooCubs in the Lincoln Division, down to only a half game.  In the Reagan, South Side Cubs Fan still holds a 6.5 game lead over the Muse Academy Muses, in a bad week for the division.  And in the Obama Division, All Balls No Strikes gained three games on their lead, now at a league best 15, over the new 2nd place team, Bad News Bears.

And now a look at the wild card standings after Week 8:

Quiet TheRiot used a 10-2 week to increase their wild card lead from 2 games to 6.5 games.  There was also some shifting around in the top four (the teams that make the playoffs).  Due to PujolsalwaysCardinal losing their Grant Division lead, they now join the wild card race, and are currently in a tie for the last spot.  Muse Academy Muses is now the team on the outside looking in, but only out by a half-game.  Most Daring is just as close behind, only one game back.

The final component of the standings breakdown looks at which division is leading the rest:

  1. Grant – 187-168-29 (.525)
  2. Lincoln – 182-176-26 (.508)
  3. Reagan – 178-188-18 (.487)
  4. Obama – 175-190-19 (.480)

The Lincoln and Reagan Divisions switch spots in the rankings this week.  And it continues to be no surprise that the Grant Division leads the other three, considering that Grant Division teams comprise 3 out of the 4 wild card spots.  If the playoffs started this week, every Grant Division team would make it.

And now a look at the weekly awards:

  • Bugs Bunny Best Record – Quiet TheRiot (10-2-0)
  • The Simpsons Runs Leader – Bad News Bears (41)
  • Josie and the Pussycats Hits Leader – Bad News Bears (76)
  • Homer Simpson Home Runs Leader – Triple Crown (13)
  • Fat Albert RBI Leader – Triple Crown (42)
  • Speedy Gonzalez Stolen Base Leader – South Side Cubs Fan (13)
  • Heather Average Leader – Good Wood Gang (.301)
  • Rainbow Dash Wins Leader – The Chosen People (7)
  • Timmy Turner Loss Leader – Triple Crown (0*)
  • Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers Saves Leader – Triple Crown (6)
  • Herbert Walks Leader – NIU Huskies (9)
  • Wile E. Coyote K’s Leader – The Chosen People (54)
  • Peppermint Patty ERA Leader – FernandoVinasGoatee (1.81)

And now the (day late) preview for Week 9.  Half the league is in division battles this week, and that should further shape and mold who is where in each division.

  • Muse Academy Muses (47-45-4) vs. South Side Cubs Fan (54-39-3)
  • Bad News Bears (41-50-5) vs. All Balls No Strikes (55-34-7)
  • Triple Crown (38-54-4) vs. SouthSideSluggers (47-41-8)
  • FernandoVinasGoatee (34-56-6) vs. PujolsalwaysCardinal (45-42-9)
  • Quincy Dirtbags (31-59-6) vs. BooBooCubs (53-36-7)
  • Quiet TheRiot (53-37-6) vs. Most Daring (45-44-7)
  • Funky Cold Molina (47-44-5) vs. Good Wood Gang (43-48-5)
  • The Chosen People (48-41-7) vs. NIU Huskies (41-52-3)

The Week 9 Matchup of the Week is a battle between the top two teams in the Reagan Division.  Last week was a rough week for both teams, first place-South Side Cubs Fan and 2nd place-Muse Academy Muses, as both went 4-8 in their matchups.  Both are still pretty high up in the league though.  SSCF has the 4th best record in the league (3rd best amongst league leaders), while MA is a half-game out of a wild card spot.  SSCF also holds a 6.5 game lead over MA in the Reagan.  A victory this week by MA tightens the Reagan race up, while possibly getting them back into the wild card, while a SSCF victory asserts their dominance in the division.

Another good matchup this week is a Lincoln Division battle between Quiet TheRiot and Most Daring.  The wild-card leader will look to jump into 1st place overall in the division, while Most Daring is fighting to stay close to a playoff spot.

Good luck to everyone in Week 9!
