Week 18 Review

My work schedule can delay it, but for once, the Week in Review is on a Monday!  Here’s a look at the past week in the Illinois Fantasy Baseball League:

First, the weekly awards:

  • Bugs Bunny Best Record – Quiet TheRiot (11-1-0)
  • The Simpsons Runs Leader – NIU Huskies (40)
  • Josie and the Pussycats Hits Leader – Good Wood Gang (75)
  • Homer Simpson Home Runs Leader – Good Wood Gang/Most Daring (12)
  • Fat Albert RBI Leader – Most Daring (44)
  • Speedy Gonzalez Stolen Base Leader – Muse Academy Muses/Bad News Bears/All Balls No Strikes (7)
  • Heather Average Leader – Good Wood Gang (.319)
  • Rainbow Dash Wins Leader – All Balls No Strikes (7)
  • Timmy Turner Losses Leader – NIU Huskies/PujolsalwaysCardinal (0)
  • Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers Saves Leader – Good Wood Gang (6)
  • Herbert Walks Leader – NIU Huskies (8)
  • Wile E. Coyote Strikeout Leader – Most Daring (75)
  • Peppermint Patty ERA Leader – BooBooCubs (1.86)

And now for a breakdown of the standings:

Here’s how the color codes for the chart will work.  If you have clinched something, that number will be highlighted in green.  If you are eliminated from winning something, it will be marked in red.  For example, FernandoVinas Goatee has bee eliminated from winning its division and overall record.  So the boxes that correspond to how far back they are in it are shaded in red.

No real changes in division leaders from this past week, or the order they are in.  The only change came in the wild card, where Funky Cold Molina is now in a playoff spot, with BooBooCubs dropping out.  The first division champions could be seen after Week 19, with South Side Cubs Fan in the Reagan, and All Balls No Strikes in the Obama in prime position to take titles and claim the first playoff spots of the season.

In the wild card race, Good Wood Gang and The Chosen People have enough of a bubble to coast into a playoff spot, if they keep playing well.  The race is still close, with 10 games separating positions 7th through 12th.  The wild card is far from over.

So who’s been hot over the past five weeks:

In a way, you have to feel bad for Good Wood Gang.  They share the best record in the past five weeks, but they share it with the leader in the same division as them.  To summarize, best record in the league the past 5 weeks equals no games gained in the standings.  Ouch.

Another team that have been impressive include Quincy Dirtbags, who has ridden a hot streak to be in playoff contention, after spending most of the first half of the season in the basement.

That will do it for the Week 18 summary.  Good luck to all in Week 19!
